Idea

The aim of the project was to create a smart room which could be controlled by an Android application in addition to taking advantage of new technologies such as Amazon Alexa. To do this I had to:

  • Conduct a gap analysis of the current market
  • Research into the current avaible technologies
  • Create requirements for the system
  • Design and create elements for the system

Execution

Various programming languages were used including Java and C++ to create the Android Application, the Arduino Uno, the micro-computer controlling the smart room, code and the Amazon Alexa skill.

Bluetooth was used to connect the Android Application to the Arduino.

Feedback

The student demonstrated excellent knowledge and practical abilities, in the areas of software, hardware and network communication. A professional approach was taken from requirement gathering to design, implementation, testing and evaluation.

It is rare and exciting to see a fully functional miniature system built from scratch, including software, hardware, communication, mechanics and engineering.
